Chairwoman & Co-founder
MIX 560-600
First lady of the club, chairwoman and co-founder. Pulls in the MIX 560-600 category, preferring positions 1 and 7.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
Teamwork, harmony, precision. There is strength in unity — this sport beautifully proves that if we do not pull on the same rope, we will lose. Tug of War is not just about strength, as it may seem at first glance, but above all about coordination, communication, cohesion and timing. These are all qualities that a person needs in everyday life. For me, this sport is a great inspiration and a great experience for personal growth.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
TOW is also for complete beginners who don't usually go for sports. It's not a classic strength, endurance or cardio sport — it combines everything together, and after just a few hours of training a person can get the hang of it and progress step by step. It's a sport truly accessible to everyone — all you need is to get your own pulling shoes, and you can even train with a piece of rope tied to a tree at home. Doing TOW in the Czech Republic means standing at the beginning of something new and truly contributing to the development of this sport.
Life motto:
"Everything happens for a reason." Every situation we find ourselves in — even unwillingly — sooner or later begins to make sense and fit into our life path. There are no mistakes or defeats, only experiences and challenges that help us move forward.
Petr Popelka
Head Coach & Co-founder
MIX 560-600 / Muži 600-700
Main initiator behind the founding of the official TOW club in Rakovník, co-founder and board member. He got into the sport years ago in Prague and has competed at three World Championships in the Czech national team jersey. Actively pulls in MIX 560-600 and Men 600-700, preferring positions 4 and 7. Also serves as head coach of our team.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
A great opportunity for athletic self-realization. Team spirit, beautiful hard work, and the chance to be part of something still new in our country!
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
100%! TOW started as my supplementary sport and gradually became my number one. It's an amazing sport that gets under your skin (sometimes literally 🫣), it's far more fun than it might seem at first glance, and it's a serious workout.
Life motto:
"Even falling on your face is still moving forward!"
Adam Urban
Co-founder & Youth Coach
MIX 560-600 / Muži 600-700
Co-founder and board member. He embraced this sport from the very first moment, understood its philosophy and found in it an excellent harmony with his other sport — hockey. Pulls in MIX 560-600 and Men 600-700, specializing in the anchor position. Also one of our youth coaches.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
Tug of War means honest hard work, sweat and a group of people who give 100% together. A crew I'd put my hand in fire for. You either pull with us or against us!
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
No fuss — grab the rope, the crew and go enjoy it to the fullest.
Life motto:
"After every night, the sun rises again."
Michal Kánský
Youth Coach
MIX 560-600 / Muži 600-700
He joined us by simply "coming to check it out and never leaving." Since then he has been part of the solid core of the team and a support both on and off the rope. Pulls in MIX 560-600 and Men 600-700, preferring positions two and seven. From May he is one of the youth squad coaches.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
TOW means being a team player. I feel like a member of an exceptional team. I push my limits, I do something for myself, even when it sometimes hurts.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
I don't recommend it 🤣🤣🤣
Life motto:
"When you do what you love, do it the best you can."
Pavel Janda
Puller
Muži 600-700
He joined out of curiosity to try a new sport and to boost his fitness and overall physical condition. And he stayed — TOW became his number one sport too. Competes in Men 600-700, preferring positions three to six and also taking on the anchor.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
A way to liven up everyday stress — with even more stress combined with body pain 🤣
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
For the crew alone, yes — they pump each other up for every sport, push the boundaries, and sometimes we even venture beyond them ✌️
Life motto:
"Either I'll pull it through, or it'll break me — but I'm definitely not going to sit on my ass for it."
Ondřej Veselský
Audit Committee Member
Muži 700-800
Lifelong athlete and above all a hockey player. When he heard we were starting a new pulling team in Rakovník, he didn't hesitate — today he's an integral part of the team. Besides being a member of our audit committee, he competes in Men 700-800 and prefers to pull as anchor.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
TOW means combining strength and effort, overcoming yourself and building trust in the people in front of you. Feeling every leg lifted and the whole team move as one.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
I've tried plenty of sports in my life, and only in TOW did I learn what a team really is — where you feel each individual's mistake and the team becomes one person. If you want to know what a team is, go for it.
Life motto:
"Everything is possible, and a person can achieve everything they dream of."
Robert Berki
Puller
Muži 600-700
He joined us during the very first months of our official operation. Few believed he'd last after the first round of hard trainings — the opposite turned out to be true. Robert has proven to be an incredible workhorse who pushes himself training by training and is an indispensable part of our team. Competes in Men 600-700, preferring positions five to seven.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
For me, TOW is about teamwork, development and progress.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
I'd recommend it to people who want to start doing something serious and don't live too far from us.
Life motto:
"Fortune favors the prepared."
Jan Paseka
Puller
Muži 600-700
Lifelong all-rounder but first and foremost a footballer, to whom he has devoted most of his life. He hit a turning point too — what started as a side sport he came to "just try" is gradually becoming his number one. Competes in Men 600-700, preferring positions five to seven, but he's not afraid of the anchor either.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
I came to TOW from contact ball sports, and for me it's a calmer, but still physically demanding form of sport and competition.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
I'd recommend it to people who want to stay physically fit safely and don't enjoy slogging it out alone in the gym — it's a great way to evenly load the entire body.
Life motto:
"Do what you can, while you can."
Adéla Porcalová
Puller
MIX 560-600
She joined us right at the beginning of our journey, when we decided to found an official club. Besides her great pulling potential, she instantly became one of the souls of the team — few of us can imagine the lineup without her. Pulls in MIX 560-600, preferring positions three and one.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
Tug of War means a place where I can be exactly the person I am. In other words: my team is my second family, my second home. A family that picks me up firmly on my feet after every face-plant and pulls on the same rope with me.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
It's a great way to relax, to unwind after a mentally exhausting day, to escape the routine — simply put, everyone finds their own thing in it. The biggest bonus is the team spirit — thanks to the TOW crew, every training is REALLY fun.
Life motto:
"Today is a beautiful day to have a beautiful day." 🌞
Tereza Strnadová
Puller
MIX 560-600
With us practically from the very beginning. She splits her time between family and rope, doing both with utmost dedication — a passionate teammate everyone would want on their team. Pulls in MIX 560-600, preferring position seven and now also as anchor.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
Tug of War means pulling on the same rope… literally 😄 Pain, hard work, but above all a crew of people who won't let you fall on your butt (even if it sometimes happens anyway 🤣).
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
Because the gym is boring 😄 Here you have the crew, adrenaline, and the bonus of dragging people across the ground. And most of all — you'll find out you can pull more than you thought.
Life motto:
"Does it hurt? Great, at least I know I'm alive!" 🤣💪
Jakub Kolařík
Puller
MIX 560-600 / Muži 600-700
He joined the team at the turn of the year and immediately threw himself into training with enormous commitment and energy that's almost contagious in his presence. Pulls in Men 600-700 and MIX 560-600, preferring positions two and five.
What does Tug of War mean to me?
The ultimate test of team synchronization and static endurance, where individual strength means nothing without the perfect timing of the entire team.
Why would I recommend TOW to others?
Because the complexity this sport demands turns you into an incredible machine — one that, on top of that, functions as a team.
Life motto:
"It doesn't matter if you have style, reputation, or money. If you don't have a good heart, you have no value."
